My Memories of John

My older brother, Don, was fortunate to have a few great life long friends. John was among them.

I first met John when I was 9 or 10 years old. We all knew him as the "Bear".  I always remember him fixing motor cycles and cars.  He seemed to really enjoy that.

At my urging, he used to thrill the neighbourhood kids by lifting Don's car clear off the ground!  We all thought that he was some kind of super hero.

In my late teens, I was going through a difficult time, John went above and beyond to help me at that time. I was always grateful for that.

I clearly remember the last time that I saw John, and the last words that he spoke to me.  It was at the reception, following my mothers funeral. I went to the door to say good-bye and thank him for coming.  I went on at lenght to explain to him how my life had changed etc. etc.  After several minutes, John put his head down, slowly raised his head, and said "All you had to say was  - Good bye."

Good-bye John

We will miss you Bear

Our sincerest sympathies to the entire Pilling family,

Tom and Catherine
