Freda Theresa Gosling (nee Gallant), age 79, died August 7, 2016 at Southlake Regional Health Centre, in Newmarket, Ontario after a courageous battle with fecking lung cancer.

Freda was born September 23, 1936 in O’Leary, Prince Edward Island. In 1951, she set out with a girlfriend on an adventure---to make a new life in Ontario.

Freda enjoyed a long career in food service, from restaurants in Toronto to serving students in the cafeteria at Sacred Heart High School. Making friends came easily given her kind and generous spirit. She wove those qualities into a lifelong loving relationship she enjoyed with husband Walter. Quite literally they grew up together knowing that with hard work, all good things do come to you. That was evident with daughter Diana and son Garry!

Family has always been the most important part of Freda’s life and again, food and the dinner table was a place of great comfort and laughter for all --- and anyone was welcome to join in at any time. Whether it was her world famous cauliflower or those ‘can’t stop eating’ chocolate chip cookies (that can and have travelled the globe!), Nanny’s generosity knew no boundaries.

That said, Freda also had some of her own personal favourite things --- whether challenging a bingo card (or 24) or masterminding the slot machine – taking a few bucks to win a few has always been a good diversion. Plus, adept with a knitting needle, her beautiful scarves will be cherished for years to come.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Walter, children Diana (Jim) Young and Garry (Alana) Gosling, grandchildren Dustin, (Martha), Laina, Brock, and Alison and great-grandchildren Mary, Charlotte and Franc. And by ever-loved pets Haystack, Jack and Gus.

Visitation is Wednesday, August 10 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Services will be held at the Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home on Thursday, August 11 at 11:00 am at 157 Main Street South, Newmarket. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception immediately following it at 404 Timothy Street from 12:30 – 2:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre.
