Obituary for Ross Allan Dobson

Ross Allan Dobson, M.D., M.Sc. FRCS(c), FACS

Born November 19, 1926 in Almonte, Ontario to George C. Dobson and Annie L. Dobson (nee Wood).

Died January 30, 2018 in Newmarket, Ontario.

Mourned by Irene (nee Woodland) after 67 years of happy marriage. Predeceased by daughter Alison (Paul Truelove). Missed by children Tracey (Patrick Quinn), Nancy (John Ferguson), Ian, Jeffrey (Casey Hadaway) and loved by grandchildren Matthew, Amanda, Jeffrey, Savannah, Christopher and James. Also missed and loved by his sister Lilian Fulford of Oakville and many nieces and nephews.

Ross grew up in Kincardine, attended Upper Canada College in Toronto where he was Silver Medallist, and completed an M.D. degree at University of Toronto where he achieved membership in A.O.A. Honour Medical Fraternity. In 1951, Ross and the love of his life, Irene, were married at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Orangeville, Ontario. After four years of post-graduate training at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Ross, with Irene and Tracey, returned to Canada to join the surgical staff of the newly built Scarborough General Hospital. He enjoyed a forty year career of General Surgical practice there including several years as Chief Surgeon.

Throughout his life, Ross loved his wife Irene, a constant support and advisor, as well as his family and his profession. In his leisure time he and Irene enjoyed classical music, opera, live theatre and travel. He also enjoyed golf and relaxation on the family farm at Uxbridge.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has occurred, a private family gathering will be held later and ashes will be buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in Uxbridge.

“Teach us not to ask for more but rather let us give our thanks for what is at our door – for food and drink and gentle rain and sunny skies above – for home and friends and Peace and Joy, but most of all for love.”
