Obituary for Weldon Spencer Astle

ASTLE, Weldon Spencer (1939 - 2018) - It is with heavy hearts, the family of Weldon Astle announces his passing on August 10, 2018 in Newmarket, ON at the age of 79. Husband for 58 years of Ellen (Harris), he also leaves to mourn his children; Jeffrey (Renée Lefebvre), Paul (Erica), and Jennifer Tranmer (Jeffrey); his cherished grandchildren, Justin, Bayley and Mitchell; his sister Ruth (Jack Grant) and brother William (Noreen), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Weldon was born in Bloomfield Ridge, NB, the son of Nelson Harold Spencer Astle and Martha Luvina (Palmer). He was predeceased by sister Nellie Norrad (Calvin).

Weldon graduated from Upper Miramichi Regional High School (Boiestown, NB) and New Brunswick Technical School (Moncton, NB). He began his career working for the NB Telephone Co., then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he trained in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC and Clinton, ON, and was assigned to Chatham Air Force Base as a radar technician. After 6 years in the Air Force, he joined IBM Canada Ltd., where he spent the rest of his career as a technical instructor in Toronto, ON. Weldon long served as a volunteer for several community organisations, being a founding member of the Jaycees in Newcastle, NB, and a member of the Lion’s Club in Newcastle, NB and Newmarket, ON, the Royal Canadian Legion in Newmarket, ON and Boiestown, NB, and the Newmarket Veteran’s Club.

Weldon loved to fish and hunt, camp with his family, and later in life, spend summers at the cottage on the head pond in Keswick Ridge, NB. He adored his grandsons, loved their company and always kept in constant touch with them.

Weldon’s family and friends will miss his mischievous smile and his unique sense of humour.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 5-7 pm.

There will be a legion service on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 4:30 pm in the Roadhouse & Rose Chapel for all who may wish to attend.
