Obituary for Alexander Farquhar

Alexander Farquhar
Farquhar, Alexander James Jamieson – Passed on from his life here on earth at 80 years of age on April 21, 2010 at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket after a short but hard fought battle from a stroke. Beloved father to Jane (husband Sean) and to James (wife Natasha). Proud grandfather of Kevin and Trevor. Beloved uncle to Linda, John, Valerie and Kathy. Survived by his brothers and sisters in the U.K., Rita, Jack, Patti, Edith, Douglas, Michael and June. Predeceased by his mother, sisters Madge, Chrissie and brother Alastair in childhood. Alex, affectionately called Sandy, was born in the Garmond, Scotland on July 21, 1929. He joined the R.A.F. as a young man and was stationed in Egypt. After serving his time he returned to Scotland and learned the trade of blacksmithing. In 1957, he immigrated to Canada by ship crossing the Atlantic Ocean. He became an Iron Worker and worked on a few landmark projects in Toronto including the CN Tower in the 1970’s. He was a proud member of Local 721. He was also a proud Scotsman at heart and loved Scottish music and Robert Burns Poetry. He loved to ballroom dance and was quite an accomplished dancer. He loved music and self-taught himself to play the organ and accordion. He loved to show off his talents to all who would listen to him play. He was an avid reader and loved to swim in lakes and enjoyed the wonder of nature. He had a lifelong love for horses and enjoyed the thrill of placing quite a few bets during his time at the racetracks. Those who have known and loved him are going to miss him tremendously. He had a great sense of humour with a personality you could never forget if you met him. A memorial service will be held at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. South, Newmarket on Tuesday April 27th at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service.
