Obituary

GOULD, Brian Michael
Passed away peacefully at home in Newmarket, on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. He was in his 69th year.
Beloved father of Emily and Elizabeth (aka “Bert”), father-in-law to Abhigyan and Robert, and fur-dad to his Jack Russell “Max”.
He is survived by his wife Janet and a wide circle of friends who have become like family. He will be reunited with his late parents, Bruce Roy Gould and Marie Jeannette Gould, as well as his beloved big rescue dogs “Bandit” and “Striker”.
Brian was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 9, 1951. He moved to Newmarket when he was a child, where he remained and built his family. He took immense pride in being a father and raising two strong, independent daughters.
Brian devoted his career to the Local Services division of the Ontario Public Services Employees Union. He was the embodiment of a “true trade unionist”. He always took great joy and deep personal satisfaction working for those represented by OPSEU and the greater union movement. He is fondly remembered by his colleagues as a clever strategist, mentor, and friend, with a wonderful sense of humour.
Brian was gifted at building relationships with people everywhere he went. He was an animal-lover and was passionate about collecting classic cars.
Cremation has taken place. A “Celebration of Life” service and reception will be held at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home (157 Main St. S., Newmarket) on Saturday February 22nd from 4pm - 7pm. Family & friends are encouraged to dress in happy & cheerful colours.
The family would appreciate contributions to be made in Brian’s honour to the Ontario SPCA. Or, if you are able and willing, a blood donation in his honour to Canadian Blood Services.

How does one even begin to speak about such a great loss to all but to speak about how we all benefited in life with Brian in it?

He was a formidable wordsmith and enjoyed strumming his words like musical instruments. How many times did one have to look up the definition of his words...recalcitrant, cabal, miscreants etc, etc etc. The list goes on & on.

He was a great storyteller especially those when it involved him bending, challenging or taxing the rules. Does being at the border with him ring any bells to you, to his family or to the unsuspecting custom agents?

He saw so much clearer any situation and was very quick to adapt accordingly. How many negotiation hours/days/nights/weekends/weeks did he steer us through to success when everyone just wanted to go home and rest?

He had your back no matter what!

He loved all guns and we mean ALL GUNS. Ask Libby about Brian’s gifting of laser tag guns to her and her sister Emily?

He loved to camp...challenge...how many family members and dogs could he squeeze into a Trillium trailer and still have fun?

He was an unconditional friend whether human or furry and he was not afraid to let you know it?

We could write so much more along with his many, many humorous accompanying stories.

But foremost his greatest legacy was one of being a dad as he loved Emily and Libby to the moon. They were his two and onlys’!
For those closest to him it would be a privilege to continue his undying support and love for his daughters as only he would appreciate.

Of all the things we remember;

The good, the bad and all the blessings in disguise, Brian you were one of a kind who will be missed by so many.

Please guide Brian’s footprints until he joins those who have gone before him.

As his favourite actor John Wayne quoted; “Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways”

In memory of Brian, this spring we will be planting a Ginkgo tree on our property as well as on his own rural property on The Bruce Peninsula.
We challenge everyone to planting a small or large tree this year in his honour and watch it grow like our love and respect for him.
What a gift to the world that simple deed would be.

Until we meet again our friend be sure to save us a seat in your oldest, newest yellow car....p.s. dogs allowed

Love you Brian
Larry and Sue
