Life Story for Garfield Ernest Wright

Wright, Garfield Ernest (March 13, 1920 to June 17, 2009) – Peacefully with his family by his side at Southlake Regional Health Centre in his 90th year. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Faye Kearns and his son, Dennis (Marlene) Wright; his grandchildren: Carolyn (Jeff) Butterworth, Crystal (Tim) Ellis, Sarah Wright (Chris Vito) and Kristen Wright; his great grandchildren: Zachary, Lauren, Paige, Campbell and Brooklynn; his dear friend, Marian Crone and his many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his brothers, Leslie and Herbert, and his sister, Kathleen Hayward. Garf/Dad/Poppa was an active and good spirited man until his death. He thoroughly enjoyed good conversation and discussing current events with his family, friends, local politicians and the boys at the coffee shop. An occasional scotch and water shared with a close friend was dear to his heart. In his early years, he was a farmer and an insurance broker but his passion was politics. He served as a school trustee, councillor and Reeve of East Gwillimbury, Warden of York County and then was appointed by the Ontario government as the first Chairman of the Region of York. He was also a member of the Sharon Masonic Lodge and the New Beaver Shrine Club. His interests included snowmobiling and tinkering with anything having a motor. But most of his time was devoted to keeping himself well informed of local and regional government issues and freely offering his opinions and advice! Garf/Dad/Poppa requested that there be no visitation or funeral. He will be cremated and laid to rest at the Queensville Cemetery. If desired, donations can be made in his name to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. South, in Newmarket. The family wishes to thank all nurses and doctors in Emergency, MSK, O.R. and ICU who gave very compassionate care during his brief stay.
