Obituary for George Walter Galbraith

Galbraith, George Walter – 75 years young, passed away suddenly at home in Holland Landing on Tuesday May 11, 2010. Son of Herb and Lottie (deceased) and brother of Helen Pedersen (Svend, deceased) and uncle of Sylvia and Walter. Happily married for 54 years to Jean. Doting father of six daughters, Sheryl Bracken and husband Harry (his buddy), Heather Meating and husband George, Louise Galbraith and partner David Rogers, Betty Chamberlain and husband Al, Linda Galbraith, Mary Vigus and husband Rob. He is fondly remembered by his grandchildren Mike and Richard Bracken, Sarah, Corey and Trevor Meating, Dillon and Drenda Chamberlain and Scott Galbraith. At age 18 George proudly joined the Armed Forces for 20 years and became an airplane frame technician and a Corporal, teaching young recruits last stationed at Camp Borden. He enjoyed building model airplanes, playing badminton, playing guitar and most of all drawing. He also found time to build 3 houses. He was employed another 20 years at the Office Specialty. He retired early at the age of 58 after battling throat cancer. Later he survived a heart by-pass and was fitted with a pacemaker. He kept busy raising chickens so Jean would have an endless supply of eggs. He had a witty, dry sense of humour. So many of his relatives and friends will remember his chanting “Yes you too can be a technician in the field of aviation !” Friends may call at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. South, Newmarket for visitation on Thursday May 13th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel on Friday May 14th at 1 p.m. followed by interment at Newmarket Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.roadhouseandrose.com
