AUSTIN, Mary E. (nee VanGorder) – Passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket. She was 87 years old. She fought a valiant battle against cancer as well heart disease for many years. Beloved wife of the late John Austin. Mother of Jack (Gloria) and Shirley Petersen (John). Proud grandmother of Meagan, Stephanie, Lisa, Susan and Christine. Very proud great grandmother of Finn Austin Sanford (son of Meagan and Scott) and her brand new great granddaughter that she didn’t get to see in Australia, Ashley (daughter of Stephanie and Kel). Survived by sister, Esther Morash and brother Tom VanGorder and predeceased by brother Dave. She will also be sadly missed by Bob and Fran Harrison whom we thank so much for all their help over the years. Mary graduated as an RN in Niagara Falls and spent most of her life nursing at the “York County Hospital” in Newmarket. She loved her job of bringing babies into the world and was always happy to have children and babies around her. In respect of her wishes, there will be no service or visitation. There will be a celebration of her life at Jack and Gloria’s on Sunday October 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. Memorial donations in Mary’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
