Heather Manson

It is so sad that the last of the Robinson girls has passed away. Edith, Annie, Dot, (Dorothy), Olive and Eleanor were all vibrant girls brought up to care for family, friends, and their community. Aunt Eleanor and Russ had a long and happy marriage as did Aunt Eleanor's sisters. Unfortunately, in today's world, long term marriages are not as common. Perhaps we should look at the give and take, love, and friendships Aunt Eleanor's generation has demonstrated over the years, and better appreciate the importance of family. I never saw a frown on Aunt Eleanor's face in all the years I knew her, and I was always amazed at her "sense of adventure". She and Uncle Russ spent so much time at the cottage at Kahshe Lake. They would drive north, park outside a small shop in winter and ski-doo to the cottage. So much for a girl raised in downtown Toronto! Russ and Eleanor loved every moment at Kahshe Lake, all seasons. I remember the "Robinson Clan reunions" at the cottage. My sons loved jumping off the cliff just outside the cottage. Eleanor and Russ also had all the toys, sea-doos, a wonderful beach, boats, the island, the cliff, and indoor plumbing! For the "boys", Uncle Russ had an island with a cabin and in the fall the brother-in-laws and Uncle Russ would fish and hunt, amongst other things. Aunt Eleanor was kind, caring of her family and others. At ninety one she had lived a wonderful life, if only all of us could do so. I know she has missed Russ immensely over the last years, missed all the time she and Russ had spent at Kahshe Lake, and would have loved being able to return to the cottage. Many thanks to the McAulay family for their friendship to both Eleanor and Russ over the years. I wish there were more neighbors and friends, like you. Aunt Eleanor, I will miss you, as will my sons, Andrew, Neill, Michael and Nicholas. You will also be missed by Andrew's partner Sarah and their baby daughter, Abby, your great, great niece. Her middle name is Dorothy, after Grandma Dot, your sister, a wonderful sentiment. May you tap dance your way to heaven, dance with Uncle Russ, reminisce over times past, and your star in the night sky will shine brightly over your family and friends. We will all miss you.
